Starting Compensation

Hourly Rate: $21.06 - $27.36 (Amount based on office location, relevant experience, skills, and competencies)

The Paralegal I provides support and assistance to the company's in-house legal group. This position will be responsible for using their knowledge and skills to assist and support the company’s attorneys in managing the company's litigation and regulatory matters, enhance the company's processes, and help maintain the company's ethical and compliance standards. The position will report to an attorney and will collaborate with other in-house counsel, paralegals and outside attorneys in pursuit of company goals and objectives.

Responsibilities

• Support legal function (litigation, licensing, non-operational legal collections, corporate) by assisting attorneys in managing the defense of individual matters and lower risk class actions, etc.   

• Tasks including but not limited to running reports and preparing said reports via Excel, handling small claims hearings, reviewing legal documents, including demands, pleadings, discovery and correspondence, settlement agreements, discovery, etc.

• Interact with Midland outside counsel and Midland employees to gather information, documentation or data as required for task at hand, or act as authorized to resolve the identified matter.

• Identify process improvements to ensure company compliance with legal requirements or to increase department efficiency.

• Other relevant duties as required.

Education and Certifications

Required: High School Diploma

Preferred: Associate degree or higher; Paralegal Certificate

Language

Required: English

Experience

Required:

• 2+ years paralegal experience, or equivalent education and experience.
• Proficiency with MS Office. Strong organizational skills, the ability to prioritize, and work in a rapidly changing environment.

Preferred:

• Without a paralegal certificate, 3+ years in a law firm or in-house legal department and willingness to obtain a paralegal certificate.
• Proficiency in Excel and Power Point.
• Prior experience in a corporate setting and an understanding of consumer protection laws, including the FDCPA, FCRA, TCPA, etc.
