About the Job
The File Clerk / Legal Assistant provides support and assistance to the in-house legal group with various administrative and reporting tasks while maintaining strong attention to detail. The Legal Assistant will assist the Paralegal with the preparation and filing of court documents, telephone interaction with court staff, and preparation of ad hoc documents at the request of the attorney. This position will report to the state managing attorney and will collaborate with local in-house counsel and paralegals in pursuit of company goals and objectives.
- Work with paralegals to prepare cases for trial, for hearings and for attorneys handling the case.
- Prepare miscellaneous court documents at the instruction of the paralegal, managing attorney, or staff counsel.
- Interact with court personnel via telephone including scheduling hearings, notifying courts of pending settlements and responding to specific requests from courts.
- Notarize a variety of legal documents including affidavits and garnishment forms.
- Handle faxing, emailing, and e-filing of legal documents to courts and opposing counsel.
- High School Diploma.
- 1-3 years in a high-volume administrative or legal specialist position.
- Knowledge of MS Office Suite programs, particularly Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook.
- Ability to quickly learn new systems and adapt to process changes.
- The ability to work with people across all levels and areas of expertise.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Associate's Degree in Legal Studies and/or Office Administration.
- Notary License.
